Alex Beaulieu-Marchand — better known by his nickname, ABM — is one of the most dominant and decorated skiers of the past decade. He’s podiumed in all the major ski events, including being a five-time X Games medallist, along with Dew Tour, World Championships and the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games, where he captured Canada's first ever Olympic medal in men's ski slopestyle. ABM’s immense level of talent didn’t come overnight. He started skiing in Quebec at age 2, inheriting a passion from his grandfather and following his family down the slopes. “My parents didn’t want to be hockey parents so they kept me on the ski hill in the winters. Thankfully, too, because skiing became my No. 1 passion.” ABM chased friends through the park at Mont-Saint-Anne, creating DIY ski movies and entering slopestyle and big air contests. He eventually levelled up to the pinnacle of freestyle, competing with the best skiers and ranking among the highest in the world. The pull of making ski movies again, aspirations for the backcountry and a scary avalanche experience, all marked the next natural step in ABM’s career. He transitioned towards freeride and mountain safety. And, over the past four seasons, he’s established himself as a backcountry weapon, shooting with BLANK Collective Films and stacking solo video parts. “What keeps me going is the pure love for skiing and a passion to explore more, to spend more time outside learning and to create more cool ski videos. Nothing makes you feel more alive than skiing down the mountain.”
